BABY STEPS

Ellie and I did an eleven week course “baby time” in the fall.  The winter break was over and the classes were starting again, but she had graduated to the “walkers” group.  I was so excited for this to start.  It was a little earlier in the day which would work better for her potential nap.  The first day of class arrived and I was ready.  Or so I thought.  My excitement quickly turned to panic once we arrived in the parking lot. CONFESSIONS OF A GROCERY SHOPPER

I’ve been grocery shopping solo for the family for a while now.  I go Monday morning after I feed Ellie her breakfast.  It took me awhile to get my groove down, but I finally got it all situated.  Unless it’s before a predicted snowpocalypse, it’s pretty uneventful.  I have my own method to get me through the event, and I’d like to come clean on a few things.

Confession #1:
I hate the thought of other shoppers thinking I’m the stereotypical clueless guy that was sent to the store by his wife. That I’m wandering around the store without a clue of what to buy, or how to select produce. So when I am picking out fresh fruit or vegetables I pretend to know what I’m doing.  I pick things up, squeeze them, look underneath them and then put them back.  I repeat this two or three times before I make my final selection.  What am I looking for?  I have no idea.  I’m just putting on a show.  But I think everybody else is, too. As long as my thumb doesn’t go through anything, it seems alright to me. Continue reading “CONFESSIONS OF A GROCERY SHOPPER”

SNOPRAH = NOPRAH… ALMOST

My mom was fortunate enough to go to a taping of the Oprah Show recently.  Aya was extremely jealous by the way.  Apparently it’s on her bucket list to be at an Oprah taping.  But my mom and her friend had quite the adventure as it took place during the Storm of the Century!  I’ve invited my mom as a guest writer to share her story.  Enjoy… Continue reading “SNOPRAH = NOPRAH… ALMOST”

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES

Other than talking to my Mom on a regular basis, I also talk to my good friend Haniyyah.  We used to be coworkers at my last job until she moved to Chicago about two years ago.  She, my friend Meghan, and I all sat in the same studio.  After working on the same project for two years, we all became not only friendly coworkers, but good friends.  We all worked hard, but we brought an element of fun to our project that was otherwise extremely stressful and demanding.  Where Meghan made it very clear we were only FFs, you could say that Haniyyah and I are BFFs.  Haniyyah also has a daughter and is a stay-at-home parent like me.  So when we gab like two old ladies on the phone, we don’t talk about deadlines or TV shows anymore.  We exchange recipes, and discuss our children’s sleep schedules and poop.  Their poop, not ours.  Anyways, she was coming to town with her daughter, and we decided to take the kids mallwalking. A DAY OF THREE P’s

PASSPORT:

We are planning our trip to Japan this spring to visit Aya’s folks.  So it was time to get Ellie a passport.  I had done all the research on what we needed and how we had to do it.  I had my dad take the passport photos and we printed them out.  We double checked the measurements, and made sure we had a plain background.  We even printed out options because we didn’t know if she should be smiling in the photo or not.  Another requirement for a baby passport is that both parent’s need to be present.  To avoid Aya having to take a half-day of work off, Ellie and I were going to drive up to where Aya works (which is about an hour away) and do it on her lunch break.  So I strapped Ellie in the car, and we were off to the post office.
