Just after the New Year, I went to work to realign Ellie’s sleep schedule. It was a weeklong event complete with unexpected plot twists and turns. But in the end, I had made major progress and had continued it for the week after too. But just as we were building up momentum to seal the deal, she’d get a cold, or Bruce the Molar King would show up again. So here we are, almost two months later, and I’m pretty much back to square one.
THE RETURN OF BRUCE
It’s funny how things happen sometimes. You think you have things under control. You think you’ve thought of every angle and that you are in the clear, or at least on the right path. But then out of nowhere, the unexpected happens. What am I talking about specifically? I spent a good two weeks working on Ellie’s sleep schedule with as much focus as if I was trying to figure out string theory. And just as things were starting to smooth out and go well, someone slapped me awake in the middle of the night and laughed. But who, you ask? None other than, Bruce the Molar King. I hate that guy.
SLEEP TIME CHALLENGE: DAY FIVE, REVENGE
I was cranky and angry. This sleep time challenge was not going as smoothly as the one I did last year. And that was no cake walk either. I was not getting consistent progressive results. I know my methods are not scientific and may not be the best, but it’s what I decided and I was hopeful they would work. I knew my problems wouldn’t be completely fixed in just five days either. I just needed to feel we were moving in the right direction. After Ellie pulled a fast one on me the day before, I was determined to finish the five day challenge on a high note.
SLEEP TIME CHALLENGE: DAY FOUR, THE COMEBACK
I awoke to happy giggles and a warm sounding “Dada!” through the baby monitor. It was 8:30am. I did a double take. 8:30am!? She slept through the whole night? There was no visit from the Midnight Monster!? Yes! I managed to do the impossible, and in only three days! I happily got out of bed and was ready to tackle the day. Day three ended up being a piece of cake, so all I had to do today was repeat it and seal the deal. I was back! Back in charge and back on top! Watch out Ellie, I’m feeling fierce today! Rawr!

SLEEP TIME CHALLENGE: DAY THREE, THE BABY WHISPERER
The last two days proved to be productive, but I needed to make another big step forward. The score was tied but I needed to pull ahead in a big way. Today would really decide the series winner. If I could maintain the same progress from the past two days, or even better, I would be on my way to sweet victory. A fifth day might not even be needed. But if she turned the tables and pulled some new tricks, it could be disastrous to my strategy.
