Japanese chicken hamburg, roasted broccoli, gyoza soup, nappa cabbage salad, and rice. Aya’s mom made this chicken dish when we were in Japan and I wanted to attempt making it back home. Ellie’s birthday was the perfect opportunity. Aya’s dad translated the recipe for me so I could figure it out. All-in-all, I think it came out great. It didn’t have the same flare as my mother-in-laws, but I was very pleased with the outcome. And Ellie at everything except the broccoli. And wanted more!

RECIPES:

Japanese Chicken Hamburg

2 lbs ground chicken
1 bunch of green onions finely chopped
1 renkon (Japanese root vegetable)
1 lemon
1 daicon radish
salt, pepper, and soy sauce

Grate renkon and mix with ground chicken. Add green onions, salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly. I made 12 patties with this amount. Heat olive oil in pan (about 1 Tbp) and cook patties until fully cooked. Grate daicon and apply as garnish. Squeeze lemon slice over daicon, add a little bit of soy sauce.
