I mean, my mom came over to help me paint. And yes, that is pink paint on the roller. You’re probably wondering why we are painting our bedroom pink. Well, here’s the story.
We had been talking about what to do with this room for the longest time.  We had a few ideas, but since there was no actual plan in place to finally gut the room, we never finalized things. But when our demo date was quickly approaching, we had to get things decided. Aya didn’t like my first suggestion, and her counter suggestion I didn’t like. Then one night she was flipping through a House Beautiful magazine called “the power of pink.” I thumbed through a few of the images and said, I could live with pink. “Really!?”
One thing about Aya is that she loves her pink.  Pink clothes, pink shoes, pink pink pink. It’s cool, it’s her thing. Her closet is crazy bright fuscia pink and it’s her favorite room in the house. Her little closet. We have a bathroom with a digital keypad toilet, and a living room with a flat screen TV and a piano, and her favorite is her small pink closet. So yeah, she loves pink.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I really don’t hang out in the bedroom. She does. She’s always picking out her clothes, or painting her nails while flipping through fashion magazines. You know, “girly” things. I have the garage, the basement, the office, and now I’ve taken over the kitchen. I could live in a pink room if that’s what she really wanted. I didn’t want to live in a baby pink room, so I figured if we are going to do pink, let’s do it all the way.
I know pink is the most stereotypical “girly” color out there. But there are some other really feminine colors too such as, lilac, periwinkle, mauve, or sunset peach (I just made that up). My mom was surprised when I told her the color. “Pink? Really?” Actually, anybody I’ve told the color to is surprised.  Although my parents bedroom was never pink, it’s not exactly raging with masculinity either. I recall seeing mauve colored floral border on blue wallpaper with flowers on it. So things could be worse I thought.
So yes, it was decided, a pink bedroom. We selected a color swatch we both agreed on and just waited for the day to arrive. When doing home renovations, it’s always when you paint the walls that it feels like you’ve made real progress. And finally, after two and a half months, that day had arrived and my mom came over to help paint. When we opened the can of paint, WHOA! It’s really pink. Like, really pink. I took a deep breath. Alright, let’s do this.
While we rolled the without-a-doubt-pink paint on the walls, I went through a range of emotions. What did I agree to!? This is way more intense than I had planned. But after we got one wall done, I calmed down and thought, yeah, this is exactly what I planned. And then I went back and forth at least ten times before we were finished. I kept thinking, Elvis had a pink car, I can do this.
Aya loved it. “I’m so happy,” she said. Okay, as long as she’s super happy with it. But after it all dried, we were both looking at it again. “It is awfully bright isn’t it?” I went back to Lowes to study the other pinks available. Passion Pink, Hint of Cherry, Poppy Fields, Blush, Powder Pink, etc. I’m now an expert on the different shades of pink. I bought two sample cans to roll-on two more options to discuss. After much deliberation and viewing the colors in natural day light, and at night with the lights on, it seems the first color is still the winner. We remembered, if we’re gonna to do a pink room, do it all the way.
With the pink dilemma behind us, it’s now time to finish the rest of the room. And luckily all the remaining parts do not include pink. I just need to figure out how to make a custom floor-to-ceiling upholstered headboard, and finish staining the furniture. As you are probably scratching your head now wondering if I know what I’m doing, I’m doing the same thing. But I’ve decided to stick with the plan and stay the course. I just may need to buy a leather Lazy-Boy and some camouflage print sheets to balance it out.

It’s growing on me !! plus I don’t want to paint for a third coat lol !
BTW……we ditched the flower blue and mauve wallpaper years ago. Walls are a kinda gold….you suggested it. and yes it is not a masculine looking design. love you
Wow, I love that shade of pink! What brand and color was it, if you don’t mind saying?
I’m not even that much of a girly-girl, but I’ve been really finding myself loving a lot of pink bedrooms lately. It’s so cheerful. And my husband was surprisingly open to the idea, so maybe there’s a pink bedroom in my future too.
Good luck with the rest of your decorating. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished room design. 🙂

Liam’s favorite color is pink. One of his preschool friends told him pink was for girls, so we told Liam his friend was wrong, that boys could like pink, too.
The color chip at lowes looks completely different than this color. I love this color so I want to be sure that this is the paint you say it it.
I can confirm that is the color we used. However, I can’t confirm how it will look on your walls. Between it being photographed and then showing on your computer screen it might look different. It’s a nice color but it does look different in different lights. Hope that helps! Good luck with your project!
