I’m not a big grill guy at all. I love to eat things off the grill, but it just hasn’t been my preferred method of cooking. I could see myself getting into it now. I mean come on, look at that picture! I could get used to grilling if things keep turning out this good.
DANG! This is fantastic. I’ve made this a few times on the grill and off the grill. The glaze is delicious and works when baking or cooking on the stove top. But to have this with the cedar planks and cooked on the grill is just pure perfection.
My kids LOVE salmon night, especially when it’s this recipe. It’s really simple too. I didn’t make any changes either. If I bake it in the oven, I cook it at 400 degrees and check it frequently. It really depends on how big your fish is.
ORANGE MAPLE CARDAMOM GLAZED SALMON
Ingredients
- 2 cedar planks
- 2 lbs-ish fresh salmon (I get one full slab)
- 1/2 c real maple syrup
- 1/2 c water
- 1 orange sliced
- 1 Tbsp ground cardamom
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Soak the cedar planks in water for at least an hour. If they haven't soaked long enough they will just catch on fire.
- Preheat grill to 400 degrees F.
- Rinse salmon and pat dry. Then place on soaked cedar planks. Lightly salt and pepper.
- Combine water, maple syrup, cardamom, and orange slices in a small sauce pan. Give the oranges a little squeeze as you out them in the pan.
- Bring to a boil and and then simmer for 2 minutes.
- Place the cedar planks and salmon on the grill and slasher the salmon with the glaze.
- Cook for 10-15 minutes with adding more glaze every few minutes.
- *If you don't want one big slab of salmon, have them cut into 1/3lb pieces before you grill them.
